If you are like us, one of the things you enjoy the most about our business is the food. We enjoy wine made by some of the world’s best winemakers and food prepared by our city’s finest chefs. With the abundance that we experience, it is difficult to imagine that we are surrounded by hunger. When we think of hunger we often think of third world countries. But according to the Department of Agriculture 34.9 million Americans do not have enough food to stay healthy and 13 million of those people are children. 56% of the nation’s emergency food outlets turned away hungry families last year because they lacked resources. Some of the most critical areas are close to home, such as the Rio Grande Valley and the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. But hunger, especially for children, exists in every city in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. This is why we have decided to devote a portion of our company earnings to local food banks in the states where we conduct business.
