When Clarke Swanson came to Napa Valley in the 1970’s he sought the help of winemaking legend Andre Tchelistcheff. Andre’ helped Clarke select and plant 140 acres in the Oakville District. It was Tchelistcheff who suggested that the soils were perfect for Merlot and Swanson has consistenly produced one that is considered among the best in Napa Valley.

Under the hand of winemaker Chris Phelps, whose resume includes properties such as Caymus, Dominus and Chateau Petrus  -  Swanson’s Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Alexis Cabernet Sauvignon are some of the best wines from the Oakville District.
