Patrick O'Dell, Turnbull's owner since 1993, has increased Turnbull's vineyard holdings within the Oakville appellation from 21 acres to Cabernet Sauvignon to an impressive 185 acres planted of several varietals. Our four Oakville vineyards, in the heart of Napa Valley, vary in soil character from deeper alluvial soils on the valley floor to the shallow, volcanic and rocky soils of the hillsides.

The Turnbull name goes back to the early 1300s when a court member of Robert the Bruce saved the king's life by turning a ferocious bull, which had threatened to gore the king. The grateful king dubbed his subject "Turnbull" and awarded him a crest featuring a bull's head twisted back with the motto: Audaci Favet Fortuna or "Fortune Favors the Bold."
